Describe different approaches to support an individual to make informed choices?
As a support worker you will need to provide information to the service user about choices they may
have to make sometimes the information could include things like:-
. The nature of the project.
. The location of the project.
. The type of activities.
. The general atmosphere and ethos of the project.
. The number of people that will be attending.
.what the transport arrangements will be.
Informed choices require full information the same principal apply to any choices that they make
accommodation, monet, medical treatment, support plans, relationships, leisure activities, aids and
adaptations, education and learning all of us have the right to make informed choices about all
aspects of our lives.
2. Describe how to support an individual to question or challenge decisions concerning them
that are made by others?
If you find that an individual is unhappy about a decision that hasn’t been made by themselves you
can help them challenge the decision by supporting them. Any changes that are made however
must be safe for the and for you and anyone else that it involves. You also need to remember that
you must be trained before you can change anything if you aren't you can get your senior/ manager
to make the changes and these should always be recorded. You should be able to understand the
mental capacity act and how to work within its requirements.
3. Explain the consequences of allowing the personal views of others to influence
